1ST NATIONAL FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NEPAL

The Nepal Fencing Association has successfully organized the 1st National Fencing Championship in Kathmandu, Nepal last June 16-17, 2016. The opening ceremony of the Championship has been inaugurated by the Secretary General of Nepal Olympic Committee, Mr. Lama Tendi Sherpa.

Only Epee and Foil were included in the championships which was participated by around 80 fencers coming from different fencing clubs in Nepal.

In Women's category, Rakhi Sharma of Kaski Fencing District Association defeated APF's Ms. Sukumaya Ghising to win Gold Medal in Epee Event. Similarly APF's Mr. Jung Giri won Gold Medal in Epee event of Male Category.

In Foil women's Individual event, Rama Kumari Singh of Nepal Army Club clinched the Gold medal and Mr. Purushottam Khatri of Khadaghari Club won the Gold Medal in Foil Men's Individual category.

The Armed Police Force (APF) club clinched most of the Medals in both Male and Female Category. The APF club has been claimed as the Champion in both events. At the end of the championship, NOC President Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha and NOC members distributed the medals and certificates to the winners.

With the support and assistance of FIE and FCA, the championship turned out to be a success. This event was also covered by most of the media personalities of Nepal.
