Following the initiatives of the International Olympic Committee to ensure the participation of Saudi Arabian female athletes to play in the 2016 Rio Olympics, an agreement was reached whereby some female KSA athletes will be given exceptional accreditation to go to Rio.
Fencing is among the sports chosen by the inclusion of Ms. LOBNA ALOMAIR who will compete in the women individual Foil event of the Rio Olympics. Fencing will be given an additional slot by the IOC in order for Ms. Alomair to compete in the Olympic Games.
It should be remembered that just this year, Saudi Arabian female fencers were allowed to play in the Asian Juniors and Cadet Fencing Championships held in Bahrain in February. This was a historic event as 2 female fencers from KSA were the first female athletes in any sport allowed to play in an international competition outside of the Kingdom.
