SOUTH KOREA TAKE DOUBLE TEAM GOLD AT ASIAN FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS

South Korea took their gold medal tally to six at the Asian Fencing Championships after claiming the men’s team foil and the women’s team épée titles in Wuxi today. The women’s team épée final was won by the quartet of Choi Eun-sook, Choi In-jeong, Kang Young-mi and Shin A-lam after they beat China’s Hao Jialu, Sun Yiwen, Sun Yujie and Xu Anqi 40-33.

The men's team foil foursome combined to overcome China 45-38 in the final, while Japan defeated Hong Kong 45-44 to take the bronze medal. Hong Kong got revenge in the battle for third place in the women’s team épée with a 45-41 victory. Action in Wuxi is set to continue tomorrow.

Czech Republic's Jiri Beran delighted the home crowd at the European Olympic qualifying event in Prague, beating Austria's Josef Mahringer to top honours in the men's individual épée. Poland's Radoslaw Zawrotniak and Spain's Yulen Pereira were the bronze medallists.
