2ND NEPAL NATIONAL FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP (7TH NATIONAL GAMES)

The 2nd National Fencing Championship was successfully held in Kathmandu, Nepal on December 28-30, 2016 under the 7th National Games. The championship was organized by the Nepal Fencing Association collabaration with the National Sports Council.

The Championship was inaugurated by the President of Nepal Olympic Committee, Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha and expressed for the great success of the championship in order to promote the fencing in Nepal. The following four team had took part in the Foil, Epee and Sabre event:

1) Central Region Team
2) Western Region Team
3) Nepal Army
4) APF Club

All together 96 fencers (Male & Female) had successfully participated in the championship. In the epee event which was held on first day of the championship (28 December, 2016), Nepal Army and APF Club clinched the gold medal in women's team event & Men's Team event respectively. Ms. Indira Poudel of Nepal Army and Mr. Janga Giri of APF Club bagged the Gold Medal in Women's Epee Individual and Men's Epee Individual event respectively.

In the Sabre event that was held in second day of the championship, Ms. Asmita Basnet of Nepal Army and Mr. Jayraj Awasti had won the gold medal in individual event and Nepal Army won Gold Medal in both Men and Women's team event.

Similarly, in the Foil event Mr. Sanjib Lama of Central Region and Ms. Rama Singh Thakuri of Nepal Army became the Champion of the Individual event by securing the gold medal. Whereas APF Club and Nepal Army clinched the gold medal in Women's and Men's Sabre team event respectively.

Chief Guest of Closing Ceremony Ms. Jyoti Rana, Vice President of Nepal Olympic Committee distributed the Medals to the winners. Likewise Mr. Sujan Lal Shrestha, Secretary General of Nepal Fencing Association handover the token of love to Jury Members for their remarkable contribution to make the Championship a great success. In the meantime Mr. Sunil Kumar Shrestha, President of Nepal Fencing Association has rewarded to Sports Journalist Mr. Ram Sudan Timlsina for his cooperation and support to promote the fencing in Nepal thru media.
