In the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia held recently in Bangkok, it was decided that in the 2022 Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou China, countries in the Oceania will be invited to participate. This will be the first time that Oceania NOCs will take part in the Asian Games, which is the biggest multi-sport Games next to the Olympics.
However, Oceania countries were already invited to participate in an Asian Indoor Games in the past. It is noted that some sports have joint Olympic qualifying for Asia and Oceania though it is not certain whether the Asian Games could be used as such.
In fencing, we can expect Australia, New Zealand and the other Oceania countries with fencing to join the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
