At the recently held FIE Congress in Guangzhou China, the Federation Internationale D'Escrime announced the suspension of the Kuwait Fencing Federation with immediate effect. The suspension was in compliance with the recent decision of the International Olympic Committee to suspend the Kuwait Olympic Committee from the Olympic Movement, following findings of intervention by the the Kuwait government in the authority of the KOC as provided for by the Olympic Charter.
The suspension of the KFF essentially bars the federation and its officials from participating in any activities or competitions sanctioned by the FIE.
However, Kuwaiti fencers may be allowed to participate in FIE sanctioned competitions (including the Olympic Qualifiers to be held in Wuxi China next year) provided they compete under the FIE Flag. Should any Kuwaiti fencer qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio, said fencers will be allowed to compete under the IOC Flag.
In the same consideration, Kuwaiti fencers may be allowed to participate in the 2016 Asian Juniors and Cadet Fencing Championships to be held in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, provided these fencers compete under the FIE or FCA Flag. No Kuwaiti team will be allowed to play in the Team Events.
