The first competition in the newly launched Asian Cadet Circuit was held in Pasig City Philippines with a total of 85 participants from 8 countries from Asia and Oceania. It was a good start with a respectable number of participating fencers and federations, in a new ranking competition organized by the Fencing Confederation of Asia. The ACC is the second such program in the world following the concept introduced in Europe long before. Nine circuit competitions are scheduled to be held in 2017, with three competitions each for the three weapons, both for Boys and Girls.
In the Girls division, Singaporeans dominated the field of 35 fencers from 6 countries. Singaporean Maxine Jie Xin WONG took the Gold beating compatriot Denyse Wan Jin CHAN. Another Singaporean Rachel Mary LIM and Hong Kong's Linna Fan won the two bronze medals at stake.
In the Boys division, Filipino Lawrance TAN overcame an early lead to wrest the Gold against Malaysian Yoong Hans Wei SHEN in an exciting bout which ended at 15-13. Singaporeans LOCK Kieren Hoy-In and LIM Matthew James settled for the bronze medals. There were 50 Boys who participated in the event.
