FCA MEDICAL COMMISSION CALLS FOR NOMINEES

Following the recent approval of the FCA Executive Committee to form the FCA MEDICAL COMMISSION, member federations in Asia and Oceania are now asked to nominate possible candidates for membership. From the candidates that will be nominated, 4 commission members will be elected during the FCA General Assembly to be held in Mongolia on September 7, 2015. These members will compose the FCA Medical Commission with its chairman, DR VICTOR CHANG (TPE), who was previously designated as the FCA Medical Director.

Members of the FCA Medical Commission will take turns in being assigned as Medical Delegate to our competitions, especially those considered as FIE ranking competitions. This requirement is standard in all FIE ranking competitions and it is expected that the FIE will demand the same of our other FIE ranking competitions such as the annual Asian Fencing Championships.

As we see the growing number of competitors in our championships, and as we recognize the heightened intensity of competitions which expose our fencers to greater risks of injuries, the need for the presence of a qualified Doctor during competitions has become imperative.

    1. Candidates must be a national of the federation (Asia or Oceania) which nominates him/her, possess a license as a Medical Doctor or Physiotherapist, must be at least 21 years of age, and preferably familiar with the sport of fencing.

    2. Elected members of the FCA Medical Commission must be available for assignment and be present for the entire duration of competition.

    3. Designated FCA Medical Delegate must:

    a. Verify the medical services and supervise its operations

    b. Supervise the anti-doping control (whenever required)

    c. Oversee the evaluation and treatment of injuries or cramps in accordance to FIE rules

    d. Has the authority to determine whether an injury can be cured within the 10 minutes provided for in the FIE Rules.
